Curriculum vitae

In 2008 Katy Miller graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor of Design majoring in Visual Communication Design (with honors), Katy has also worked throughout New Zealand as an Advertising Creative and a Graphic Designer. In 2010 Katy took up the opportunity to further her design education and is now working towards a Master of Design Degree from the University of Otago.

Research

Focuses on how design can be utilized in the National Park to create an experience that utilizes a condensed period of time to increase the level of engagement and install a developed sense of ownership in the general Public.

The literature review phase will be followed by the design of several interventions that encourage engagement, alter attitudes and install a developed sense of ownership. Whilst dealing with issues of accessibility, engagement and education within the National Park context.

Areas of proposed research

  • Looking at the importance, benefits, core attributes, current perceptions or values and possible futures of National Parks and Natural spaces.
  • Instrumentality of artifacts & nature; how enlisting artifacts can affect behavioral and attitudinal change.
  • Principles, methods and current research of visual and kinesthetic perception, focusing on the roles and dialogue between user, artifact & environment.
  • Exploring how a condensed period of time can affect the quality, depth, and efficacy of an experience.
